(a) It is important to see that the drains are clear and that the containers are clean. Accumulations of water may set up active corrosion and oil in the air pipes is dangerous and may lead to explosion in the pipes.
(b) Examination of relief valves and other safety devices.
(7) Inspection of steam plant in accordance with the usual
practice for ateam ships.
(8) The spare gear should be adequate and it should be seen
that the stocks of parts is maintained.
(9) Having regard to the large amount of oil fuel carried on
motor vessels, special attention should be paid to the storage arrangements, general cleanliness and the con- dition of the fire extinguishing appliances.
(The foregoing indicates the nature of the survey which should be made in all cases, but in addition à general examination should be made, and particular attention ahould be given to special features peculiar to the type of engine under inspection.
